aaus-list @ ukrainianstudies.org -- [aaus-list] "Thinking Fan's Guide to the World Cup" and other things

While it might be late for you to run out and pick up the "Thinking Fan's
Guid to the World Cup" in time for tomorrow's games (especially
Tunisia/Ukraine -- and while we're talking, I felt like *I* needed a
shower after today's Brazil/Japan workout. Though Japan fell to Brazil
4-1, there was some spectacular playing - Brazil played as though their
reputation was at stake and Japan's keeper was awesome --) it's worth a
mention for the long run.

There's a separately authored chapter on every country which is
participating with each author's own particular view/understanding of
their chosen country's approach to the sport.

In the chapter on Ukraine by Benjamin Pauker, the author credits his
knowledge of Ukraine and Ukraine's participation in the sport in large
part to the time he's spent at the Ukrainian Sports Club on 2nd Avenue;
even having learned about the other Shevchenko - Taras - at the sports
club.

Also, there are some shots of the sports club on Sports Illustrated website:
