The Organization and its Members

 

 

AAUS is governed by a seven-member executive board, which consists of a president, vice-president, secretary-treasurer, and four members-at-large. The organization also has other committees and officers, as stipulated by its by-laws. It is a non-profit organization chartered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA. Its organizational infrastructure presently is supported by the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University. The organization was founded in 1989 at the time of the founding of the International Association for Ukrainian Studies.

Information about the AAUS:

The AAUS is the American affiliate of the International Association for Ukrainian Studies (IAUS). It also is an affiliate of the Association for the Study of Nationalities (ASN) and the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS). It meets twice years at the annual conventions of ASN and AAASS and at other times as appointed by the executive board or by petition of the membership. American participants in the world congresses of the IAUS (held every three years) must be members of AAUS.

To join the AAUS, please fill out an on-line application form, or send a message to the Secretary-Treasurer, Adriana Helbig. Dues are $20US/year for students and retirees, $30US/year for faculty and professionals, $40/year for joint memberships (2 listings, one set of mailings). Dues-paying members receive the AAUS bulletin and the journal "Harvard Ukrainian Studies." As well, they are able to participate in AAUS-sponsored events at the ASN and AAASS conventions. The AAUS welcomes members from all professions and disciplines with an intellectual focus and interest on Ukraine or the Ukrainian diaspora. Its primary focus is on university-based Ukrainian studies and outreach to the broader public.
