Invitation to a Wedding: Traditional Ukrainian Wedding Songs
with Nadia Tarnawsky & Ukrainian Women's Voices

Presented by The Ukrainian Museum, the Center for Traditional Music and Dance, and the New York Bandura Ensemble

Ukrainian-American singer Nadia Tarnawsky once again joins Ukrainian Women's Voices, a collective of New-York-area Ukrainian and American singers, to present "Invitation to a Wedding," a program of Ukrainian wedding songs, sung in traditional village singing style and in Ukrainian folk polyphony. The evening's concert is the fifth in the Ukrainian Women's Voices series, and includes selections from a large Ukrainian village repertoire of folksongs and ballads relating to courtship, wedding, and marriage themes. The concert is presented in in conjunction with Museum's current exhibitions Invitation to a Wedding: Ukrainian Wedding Textiles and Traditions and Wedding Embroidery from Eastern Podillia.

Admission (
includes gallery access to exhibitions):
$15; $10 Museum and CTMD members and seniors; $5 students.

The exhibition was organized in cooperation with the Plast Ukrainian scouting sororities Pershi Stezhi and Verkhovynky.

Wednesday-Sunday, 11:30 am – 5:00 pm
Admission:
$8 adults; $6 seniors and students (with ID); 
FREE for Museum members and children under 12

Folk Art Workshop for Families
Explore the forms and meanings of Ukrainian folk art by participating in a variety of hands-on art activities and looking at objects from the permanent collection. Weave a textile on a loom, sculpt a decorative animal out of clay, design a plate using traditional floral and geometric motifs, and embroider a design onto fabric. Take your creations home!
