Dear Colleagues,

Below is the link to the original interview of
Vyacheslav Bryukhovetskyy in Ukrainian and the
attached translation in English, related to the
status of university autonomy and academic freedom
and other topics. Please note that an alternative
draft law "On Higher Education" has been submitted
to Ukraine's Parliament by Yuriy Miroshnichenko,
the President's Representative in the Parliament
(Verkhovna Rada), who is a member of the Party of
Regions. That draft was submitted on December 17.

Vyacheslav Bryukhovetskyy: (on support for the
alternative draft law "On Higher Education"
proposed to Parliament)

"Luckily, there are members of the Parliament who
understand where such a move will lead the
educational system. A new draft law “On Higher
Education” was introduced on December 17 by
Presidential representative Yuriy Miroshnychenko
from the Regions Party. This is the most
progressive draft introduced since Ukraine’s
independence.

I can’t say it completely satisfies us, but it
truly is a bill aimed at developing Ukraine’s
system of education. As Tabachnyk’s proposed
draft law focuses on “obedience”, this draft law
focuses on standards of quality and accountability
in Ukraine’s education.

We support this bill. I am pleasantly surprised
that the Party of Regions essentially supports us.
I’m optimistic that this bill will form the basis
of the future law on education."

alternative proposed draft law "On Higher
Education".

Ms Kotsiubyns'ka passing is a great loss to
literary scholarship and the community of human
rights' defenders.
She was an outstanding individual.

Eternal memory to her!
