Call for volunteer translators to assist Yahad-in Unum
I have been contacted by Jeffrey Hagan, who works in the New York
office of Yahad-In Unum, a Paris-based non-profit organization led by
the renowned French Catholic Priest Patrick Desbois that collects
eyewitness testimonies regarding the Holocaust in Ukraine. They are currently in
search of volunteer bilingual Ukrainian and English speakers to help
translate testimonies they have collected in Ukraine. Your help would
mean a great deal to the ongoing efforts of Father Desbois and
Yahad-In Unum.
For the past five years they have been systematically searching for the
unidentified mass graves of Jews killed by the Nazis in Ukraine and
Belarus between 1941 and 1944. Teams travel to Eastern Europe several
times each year to film interviews with Ukrainian and Russian
eyewitnesses to the massacres who then lead the teams to mass graves.
To date, they have identified 800 mass graves and interviewed 900
eyewitnesses.
When the team returns to Paris from the field, all of the video
testimonies are translated into French and English. They currently have
hundreds of hours of accounts of the massacres that are in need of
translation into English. Translation involves watching a video (on
DVD) of a testimony and transcribing the conversation into English in a
script-like format. If you are able to translate even just one
interview, that would be tremendously helpful.
To learn more about their work, feel free to check out some of their coverage:

There will be a National Geographic film premiering on August 2 about Father
Desbois' work. Here is a link to the press release:

If you have any further questions and if you are willing to translate.
please get in touch with Jeffrey Hagan at (732) 740-3991 or
