All persons attending the Conference, including presenters and participants listed on the program, must register with payment. We strongly urge registration in advance by mail by completing the form below and sending it with a check payable to “Mid-Atlantic Slavic Conference” no later than Monday, March 16th to MASC Treasurer Timothy Doyle at the address below. Registration may also be done at the door, but because our catering order for lunch will have already been submitted, additional lunches for those who did not pre-register will be extremely limited. Participants who must withdraw from the conference for any reason should email their discussants and both me (maryetheis@mac.com) and Mr. Doyle (tdoyle@lawrenceville.org) as soon as possible. The email addresses of all participants will be found on the last page of the tentative program attached to this email. NOTE: All conference rooms at The New School will be smart classrooms equipped with PC’s, digital projector, screen, and DVD/VHS players. If anything else is needed, please contact Prof. Val Vinokur at vinokurv@newschool.edu. As in the past, graduate students presenting papers at the Conference are eligible to win a prize of $200 for the best paper. The paper may be revised from the version given at the Conference, and should be mailed as hard copy to me at 503 Friendship Drive, Fleetwood, PA 19522 not later than April 17, 2009. Papers will be reviewed by a committee drawn from the MASC Executive Board and the winner will be our nominee for the national AAASS award. Papers will be judged along the following guidelines: Clarity of the main research and the response to it (20 points); importance of research findings to the profession (20 points); amount and quality of the support for the argument (20 points); use of primary sources if applicable and adequate, interesting content (10 points); readiness for publication (10 points); use of English mechanics (10 points); readability and style (10 points).
