The
Eugene and Daymel Shklar Research Fellowships
In Ukrainian Studies 2008-2009
The Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard
University is accepting
applications for the Eugene and Daymel Shklar Research Fellowships in
Ukrainian
Studies for the 2008-2009 academic year. These fellowships are intended
to
bring scholars from the international academic community to Harvard for
focused
research on projects concerning Ukrainian history, literature,
philology,
culture, and other fields in the humanities and social sciences. During
their
residence, Shklar Research Fellows are also expected to participate in
the
scholarly life of the University, and to offer a formal presentation
based on
original research in the Institute's seminar series.
Eligibility:
Individuals who hold a doctorate in one of the fields listed above
and who
have demonstrated a commitment to Ukrainian studies are eligible to
apply.
Those individuals who have received their Ph.D. or comparable academic
degree
(e.g., Kandydat nauk) within the past eight to ten years are
especially
encouraged to apply.
Stipends:
To support their stay at Harvard, Eugene and Daymel Shklar Research
Fellows
are provided with a stipend of $3,300.00 per month to cover the cost of
housing, health insurance, and other living expenses. In addition to
the
stipend, the award also covers the cost of direct roundtrip travel to Harvard
University.
Fellowship Tenure:
Requests for residence for periods from three to eight months will
be
considered. The average fellowship tenure has been four months.
Adjustments to
the requested time-frame may be made at the time of award.

The
Petro Jacyk
Distinguished Fellowship
in Ukrainian Studies 2008-2009 Competition
The
Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard
University is inviting
applications
for the Petro Jacyk Distinguished Fellowship in Ukrainian Studies for
the
academic year 2008-2009. The fellowship
is designed to bring exceptionally accomplished scholars to Harvard
University for a period of
five
months. While in residence, the Jacyk Distinguished Fellow will use the
University's unique resources to work on significant and innovative
projects in
Ukrainian studies, and in general to further his or her professional
development. The Jacyk Distinguished Fellow will interact with the
Harvard
academic community through such activities as giving lectures,
readings, or
performances, or writing articles. In
addition, the Jacyk
Distinguished Fellow will
preside over the Petro Jacyk Symposium in Ukrainian Studies: a forum
presented as part of the HURI Seminar Series in Ukrainian Studies. The forum shall consist of a formal
presentation followed by a
round-table discussion on a Ukrainian theme of the fellow’s choosing. The
2008-2009 Jacyk Distinguished Fellow will be selected through an
international
competition, open (but not limited) to scholars, policy-makers,
artists,
writers, and journalists.
Nominations may also be submitted. Individuals submitting nominations should
submit a letter stating the nominees name, current position, field of
study,
and basis for nomination. E-mail
nominations are also accepted. Letters
and e-mail nominations are to be submitted to the Institute’s Programs
