Dear Bohdan,
A (Little) Russian wit already made a similar argument, as early as the 
1830s: see Roman Koropeckyj's and my "Ukraine in Blackface: Performance 
and Representation in Gogol'?s Dikan'ka Tales, Book 1," Slavic Review
