Ukraine did not lose its honor in the 350 annivarsary of Pereiaslav because
the academic and general public was previously prepared for the event with
scholarly and popular publications. Will the Ukrainian political and
cultural elites prepare themselves and the Ukrianian public for the Poltava
anniversary? That is the question!

Аs for Yushchenko's plans to commemorate Baturyn, that is good, but it
should be done in 2008 not 2009. On the other hand Konotop and Poltava are
close together in months (June, July) and years (1659, 1709), and these two
anniversaries could and should be linked in the commemoration.

If someone knows what is being planned in Ukriane or the diaspora, how about
letting the rest of us know?
