Subject: Ukrainian migrant to USA query
Dear Mr Dillon,
My name is Karen Schamberger, I am a curator at the National Museum of Australia. I am currently researching a tapestry made by a Ukrainian woman in a Displaced Persons Camp at Neu Ulm, Germany in about 1945/46. The item was brought to Australia by an Australian woman who worked for the UNRRA & IRO (she died before the donation was completed).
I am attempting to trace the Ukrainian woman, Olga Basylewycz or Basilevich who, we were told, migrated to the USA. I would also like to trace her descendants for reasons of research as well as copyright. I was wondering if you might know someone who could help or direct me to possible resources.
We have contacted the Embassy of the USA here in Canberra and they have not been able to provide more than 3 possible women who occur on the social security system (spellings include Basilevich and Bazylewicz). The have suggested contacting the American Association for Ukrainian Studies which is why I am contacting you.
