         The entry "Uitmen (Whitman), Uolt" in 
_Ukrains'ka radians'ka encycklopediia_, 2d ed., 
vol. 11, bk. 1 (1984) indicates that Ukr. 
translations of Whitman's poems were published in 
Vasyl' Mysyk's _Vybrane_ (Kyiv, 1958) and Ivan 
Kulyk's _Virshi ta poemy_ (Kyiv, 1962). Kulyk was 
killed by the Stalinist regime in 1937, and Mysyk 
could well have done his translations before 
1954. An edition of Whitman's _Lystia zemli_ also appeared in Kyiv in 1969.
         A large bibliographic guide to _Vsesvit_ 
was pub. in Kyiv in 2005 to mark this translation 
journal's 80th anniversary. Some translations 
might be listed there as well. Yury Mykytenko
