A couple interesting articles about rates of depression in different
nations, reporting on a study done by WHO and Harvard. Ukraine has a high
depression rate (9.1%), but is lower than US (9.6%).

"Experts say the high level of depression in Ukraine is a striking finding
that deserves more research. The rate may have to do with the transition to
a post-communist state, continuous political upheaval and continuing stress
related to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. ... Though
classified by the World Bank as a less developed country, Nigeria bested all
countries surveyed in terms of rates of depression (0.8%). It also has one
of the lowest rates of anxiety disorders, with a reported 3.3%. "
