Please Note that this is the Russian and Eurasian Outbound Program which
"automatically" includes Ukraine, with Kazakhstan, etc. under "Euroasia".
The ACTR established itself in Kiev in 2002 and operates quite actively
from there.

Subject: New Summer Area Studies Program from American Councils (ACTR)
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
American Councils is pleased to announce a new opportunity for summer
study in Moscow, Russia. "Contemporary Russia" is the first American
Councils program open to students with no prior training in Russian
language. The five-week program will provide classes in Russian
economics, Russian politics, and Russian culture. All content-based
courses will be taught in English by faculty of the State University:
Moscow Higher School of Economics, one of Russia's most prestigious
centers for the study of social sciences. In addition, program
participants will receive six hours per week of elementary Russian
language instruction (students with prior training in Russian who wish
to join the program will be provided instruction at the appropriate
level; we will be able to accommodate students of all proficiency
levels). A full-time U.S. resident director will oversee the program,
assist participants with academic and personal matters, and serve as a
liaison between university faculty, administrators, host families and
participants.
Other program features include room and board with Russian families;
weekly cultural excursions; Russian peer tutors; eight semester-hours of
academic credit through Bryn Mawr College; and pre-departure orientation
in Washington, DC. Program fees include round-trip international travel
from Washington, D.C. to Moscow, room and board, international health
insurance, and Russian visas.
Tentative program dates are June 28 - July 31, 2006. The application
deadline is March 15, 2006.
We hope you will inform your students and colleagues about the new
program.
