2006 Foreign Fulbright Student Seminars
The annual Fulbright Foreign Student Enrichment Seminar series, sponsored by
the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
(ECA), will take place in nine cities across the United States, beginning with
Washington, D.C., starting in early February. Over 1,100 foreign Fulbright
students from 130 nations are expected to participate in these seminars, which
are offered to students in their first year of study in the U.S. Approximately
140 foreign students will participate in each of the Fulbright Enrichment
Seminars, along with ten recently returned U.S. Fulbright alumni. Currently
there are more than 2,400 foreign Fulbright students at U.S. universities and
colleges across the U.S. in diverse fields of study. Most grants are 1 to 2
years in length.
These seminars provide foreign Fulbrighters, who are graduate students selected
for their academic achievements and leadership potential, with a forum to
discuss important aspects of U.S. society in each of the cities where seminars
are held. This year most seminars will focus on civic education.
Seminar themes and dates are as follows:
Washington, DC: February 8th - 12th
Citizen Engagement: Impacting National Government
Tempe: February 9th - 12th
The Engaged Citizen and Civic Participation in Environmental Education
Miami: February 23rd - 26th

San Francisco: March 9th - 12th

Philadelphia: March 16th - 19th

Chicago: March 23rd - 26th

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs carries out professional,
cultural, and academic exchange programs with the goal of increasing mutual
understanding between the people of the United States and people of other
countries. Further information on the Fulbright Program or other ECA programs
