The recent scramble re the MAUP case leads me to make the following
suggestions:
1) AAUS should routinely, and immediately, respond to all expressions of
xenophobia and anti-semitism in Ukraine, and especially by Ukrainian
academics. It shouldn't be necessary for our colleagues there to appeal to
us here on a case by case basis.
2) AAUS may want to establish something on the order of a "Ukrainian
Academic Monitor", which will report on academic malfeasance in Ukraine.
It would of course be necessary to have some sort of widely recognized set
of guidelines (which surely must already exist). Reports of malfeasance
would have to be accompanied by full name, address, email, and academic
affilation -- and, if possible, some sort of evidence. The AAUP includes
in its publication a list of US universities that have violated academic
standards and AAUS could do the same.
