Program Assistant for Eurasia
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a congressionally funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks a Program Assistant for its Eurasia section. The position is based in Washington, DC.
The Program Assistant will provide administrative support to Eurasia Program staff.
Specific duties of the Program Assistant will include:
Assisting the Program staff with general administrative duties;
Researching information about potential grantees and current political and third sector developments in the region;
Maintaining contacts with grantees;
Organizing meetings for visiting grantees;
Attending conferences, meetings and other events;
Providing support for considering and awarding grants to nongovernmental organizations working on democracy-building programs in Eurasia, with a focus on Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus;
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field;
Knowledge of the political and social issues in the region;
Strong written and oral communications skills in English and Russian (familiarity with Ukrainian or Belarusian a plus);
Administrative support experience;
Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
Authorization to work in the US (non-US citizens must possess work authorization which does not require employer sponsorship for a visa).

Program Officer for Russia
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a congressionally funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks a Program Officer for its Eurasia section, specializing in Russia. The position is based in Washington, DC.
The Program Officer will work with the regional director and program staff to develop and manage the NED's Eurasia grants program, develop the Endowment's strategy for Russia, set priorities, and monitor and evaluate projects in the region.
Specific duties of the Program Officer will include:
Assessing grant proposals to present at quarterly NED Board meetings;
Traveling to the region on a regular basis to identify and work with potential new grantees;
Monitoring and providing compliance assistance to existing grantees;
Attending relevant internal and external meetings;
Tracking political and third sector developments in the region;
Maintaining contacts with organizations and individuals working on the region.
Applications should have the following knowledge and skill require requirements:
A Master's level education in International Affairs, History, Political Science or related discipline;
Significant prior experience in democracy related and nonprofit work;
In-country experience in Russia;
Excellent written and oral communications skills in English and Russian;
Proficient in the use of MS Office;
High degree of organization and initiative;
Experience in financial monitoring and reporting;
Knowledge of program evaluation techniques;
Excellent staff, office management and interpersonal skills.
