If you missed yesterday's reading by author Igor Klekh, organized by the
Harriman Institute, but are interested in his work, attached is the
version of Klekh's "Food Essays For Your Thoughts" that was presented.
This English-language version, translated by Slava Yastremski and
Michael Naydan, includes the essays "Salo (Pork Lard)", "The Blin,"
"Kielbasa as a Political Measure," "Vodka as Pure Alcohol, and "The
Metaphysics of a Hangover."
The Polish-Ukrainian-Russian writer Igor Klekh -- whose stories center
on what is often called the crossroads of Central Europe, the point
where Polish, Ukrainian, Austrian, Jewish, Czech, Slovakian, and Russian
traditions meet -- is also the author of "A Land the Size of the
Binoculars," published in August 2004 by Northwestern University Press,
and the editor of "Neizvestnaya Ukraina" (Unknown Ukraine), an anthology
of works by contemporary Ukrainian writers, published in 2005 by
Emergency Exit publishers.
