Applications for the USA/USA Program continue to stream in.
The deadline is June 1. So far 45 applicants have registered to
compete for the 10 places available. The deadline is still two
weeks away. We expect about 60 applicants. The applicants
are from ten oblasts and the city of Sevastopol. The leading
number of applicants comes from Luhansk oblast.
A promising applicant is:

Ambition in life: to make Ukraine famous by being the first
Ukrainian to create an operating system. Combine her interest in
computer science with astronomy.
Project: to put on a Ukrainian evening on her American college campus
in which she plays Ukrainian music, speaks about Ukraine and recites
Ukrainian poetry. Claims she will get Americans to perform with
her and will provide the attendees with computer screensavers
portraying beautiful scenes of Ukraine

Why I want to participate in the USA/USA Program and study
abroad: "I want to participate in this program because I want to
get the best education. If I enter an American university, I
will be able to improve my English get some skills in understanding
another culture and learn to live in US democratic society. This
experience will help me make a difference in my native
country."
Six USA/USA Program students won full scholarships to study in
the USA during the 2004-2005 academic season. Three won
full four college scholarships; three won scholarships for two years
of prep school education with the improved prospect of winning full
four year college scholarships. We will write more about these
students in the next few weeks.
