Interrelations in the Context of Contemporary Europe

and Round Table
Interethnic Relations in Euroregion Upper Prut

Chernivtsi, Ukraine, September 23-25, 2004




Dear Colleagues,

Department of Political Science and Sociology of Chernivtsi National
University, Faculty of History of Chernivtsi National University and
Bukovynian Center of Political Science, in close cooperation with and
sponsored by Friedrich Ebert Foundation Ukraine, Kärnten Landsregierung
(Austria) and Chernivtsi Oblast State Administration, are pleased to
announce Second International Academic Conference ‘Ukraine – Romania –
Moldova: Historical, Political and Cultural Interrelations in the Context
of Contemporary Europe’ and Round Table ‘Interethnic Relations in
Euroregion Upper Prut’, to be held at Fedkovych Chernivtsi National
University on September 23-25, 2004.

Major tasks of the conference are:
·        Development and facilitation of academic contacts among
researchers interested in history and present-day relations between
Ukraine, Romania and Moldova;
·        Defining conflict areas in Ukrainian-Romanian-Moldovan relations;
search for and elaboration of approaches to objective and constructive
conflict resolution;
·        Suggesting proposals for follow-up academic events, elaboration
and implementation of schemes of bilateral and trilateral cooperation of
scholars interested in History, Political Science, Cultural Studies, as
well as staff members of Ukrainian, Romanian and Moldovan NGO’s; drafting
recommendations for national and regional policy-makers and self-government
bodies.

The conference will be divided into the following panels:
·        Ukrainian-Romanian-Moldovan interrelations: historical aspects;
·        Importance of ethnonational processes in
Ukrainian-Romanian-Moldovan interrelations;
·        Ukrainian-Romanian-Moldovan interrelations in political,
legislative, social, economic and civil spheres in the context of European
integration;
·        Cultural, academic and educational contacts in the context of
Ukrainian-Romanian-Moldovan interrelations;
·        Round Table ‘Interethnic Relations in Euroregion Upper Prut:
Initial Phase 2001-2004’.

The conference will be accompanied by presentation of latest publications
on the issue area.
We encourage interested scholars to forward titles of their presentations
to the address provided below not later than September 7, 2004.

We additionally request the following documents:
1)     curriculum vitae;
2)     One-page summary of the presentation.
