To the panel committee and other members:

As you know we need to submit a proposal to ASN soon. I'd like to 
propose that AAUS put together a panel on Heorhii Gongadze and the 
press in Ukraine: perhaps with one paper outlining his work and what 
has happened to him and its implications; another panel talking 
about the influence of the press in society and the intellectual 
elites; and a final panel looking mechanistically at the government 
and the media (i.e., legal issues, personalities involved, who is 
influencing what, what prospects are there, the influence of 
'net-based entities like Ukrainska pravda, etc.)

Please let me know what you think. We need to get something together 
asap. I can envision bringing one of the presenters from Ukraine, so 
suggestions would be good for that.
