Jurij Dobczansky asked if proxy voting is allowed for the upcoming
election. The bylaws do allow for proxy voting, which is supposed to
be in writing. I think that e-mail would be allowed, too.
The only active slate that I am aware of consists of: myself to run
for pres., Marta Dyczok (U of Western Ontario) to run for v.p., Alex
Dillon (Harvard) to run for sec.-treas., and Nancy Popson (Kennan
Ctr.) and Paul D'Anieri (U of Kansas) to run for the at large
positions on the board. The platform will focus on institutional
growth, publications that promote the field, promulgation of a
position paper on Ukr. studies for the campaign season, networking,
information provision (including web and paper), concentrated work
on sponsoring panels at other professional conferences (AHA, APSA,
AATSEEL, MLA, AAASS, etc.), better outreach to hromada groups, and
the construction of a "Why study Ukraine" booklet and website node.
As well, I intend to push the institutional connection between AAUS
and HURI to see if we can combine our Bulletin with HURI's
newsletter (both to gain institutional support at Harvard and to
push HURI into a more active and leading role supporting the field
at large). I will push very hard for this and will need wide support
and assistance from the membership, with various committees to fill.
Since I am running (and, obviously, actively campaigning), I think
it best to forward proxy votes to Michael Naydan at mmn3@psu.edu,
whether to endorse this slate or to vote for alternates.
Best,
Rob De Lossa
